Title

Tapestry of the Arma Christi

Description

The Arma Christi are the instruments of the Passion: the objects associated with Christ’s passion. The exact number of objects is flexible, and appears frequently as a theme in Christian Art. Some of these arms include the best known relics of the passion, the True Cross, the Crown of Thorns, the column where Jesus was whipped and the whip itself, the Holy Sponge, the Holy Lance, the nails with which he was attached to the Cross, the Veronica Veil, among numerous others such as the Holy Grail, the dice the soldiers used to cast lots, the rooster that crowed after Peter denied Christ three times, the ladder used to remove Christ’s body from the Cross, and so on.
