Title
Cathedral Church of St Nicholas, Famagusta, Cyprus (Lala Mustafa Pasha Mosque)
Description
The imposing cathedral of St Nicholas is located in the walled city of Ammochostos and dates to the 14th century. Its architecture mimics the cathedral in the French city of Reims. It was in this cathedral that the Frankish kings of Cyprus and Jerusalem were crowned. The interior was originally decorated with wall paintings but these were destroyed when the Ottomans converted the cathedral into a mosque in 1571 (re-named Lala Mustafa Pasha mosque).
